Vita Scheldebad

On the site that was home to Scheldebad for 40 years, Vita has built a new swimming centre, including a full sports facility with state-of-the-art gym equipment, an indoor playground and a restaurant. Vita is also responsible for operating the complex.

A sports and leisure boost

Scheldebad is surrounded by the beautiful greenery of Schelde Park. The surroundings and compact schedule of requirements inspired Vita to seek a broader interpretation of the assignment: not just constructing a new swimming pool but a fully-fledged swimming, fitness and leisure centre. The complex was completed in 2018 and has provided Schelde Park and the entire town of Temse with a major boost.

Indoors and outdoors become one

Both the site's history and the landscape qualities of the park were important starting points for the design and the result is a lovely interaction between the park and the building. Thanks to the large expanses of glass, the restaurant area almost merges into the outdoor environment. This feeling is further enhanced by the impressive stairway with extensive steps that connect the outdoor seating area with the park.
