Cordeel Belgium contributes to the new emergency department of Sint-Trudo Hospital
During an official press moment, CEO Cindy Monard and deputy head nurse of emergency care Tom Frederickx provided an explanation of the project and the ambitions behind the new department. This was followed by a site visit, during which an important milestone was made visible: the raising of the column for the tower crane and its official unveiling by the hospital’s CEO.
More space for high-quality emergency care
As a construction partner, Cordeel Belgium is proud to work alongside Imtech, Detoo Architects, and De Klerck Engineering on this important expansion of healthcare infrastructure in Limburg.
The new emergency department will significantly increase capacity:
- expansion from 550 m² to 1,700 m²
- expansion from 14 to 24 treatment rooms
This expansion is necessary to meet the rising demand for care. Where the hospital registered 16,618 emergency patients in 2000, that number rose to 24,199 patients in 2025.
During the further development of the construction plans, special attention was given to efficient care and patient pathways, comfort for patients and healthcare providers, and optimal collaboration with the future GP out-of-hours service.
Part of a broader infrastructure project
The works on the new emergency department are part of a larger infrastructure project on the Sint-Trudo Hospital site.
Since the start of the construction zone in June 2025, several preparatory works have already been carried out, including:
- adjustments to the hospital site in function of a new ring road
- earthworks
- execution of foundation piles
In the coming months, the focus will shift further to the construction of the new building. The GP out-of-hours service is scheduled to be operational in May 2027. In August 2027, the emergency department will move into the new building.
With this project, Cordeel Belgium contributes to a sustainable and future-oriented healthcare environment where quality, efficiency, and patient-centred care are central.
