Cordeel Belgium and C-metal are helping build the future of the Hasselt canal zone

Commissioned by the City of Hasselt, we are realizing a new connection and experience bridge over the canal at the Blauwe Boulevard, which will seamlessly connect the city center with Quartier Bleu. This architectural bridge in weathering steel will not only serve as a functional crossing, but also as a place for experience, stay and encounter.

We won this assignment thanks to our technical expertise and our ability to respond to a particularly challenging request from the architect. The bridge will be designed and built through an integrated Design & Build contract, with a strong focus on spatial quality, sustainability and urban integration. In addition to the design, the assignment includes the full execution, safety coordination and landscape development on and around the bridge.

Strong engineering and advanced control of the welding processes are crucial in this project. The Experience Bridge will be built upside down on supports, in eight separate sections. This will be followed by an impressive operation in which the entire structure will be turned over using four cranes. Transport will take place by ship, and the actual installation is scheduled for later this year.

The bridge will be accessible to pedestrians and cyclists and will contribute to the further redevelopment of the canal zone into a vibrant urban district.
