Opening gemeenschapscentrum 't Gewent Sint-Katelijne-Waver Cordeel Belgium

New community center ’t Gewent officially opened in Sint-Katelijne-Waver

On Monday, April 20, the new community center ’t Gewent officially opened its doors in Sint-Katelijne-Waver. With this multifunctional building, the municipality gains a contemporary meeting place where culture, education, and community life come together. Mayor Ronny Slootmans was also present at the official opening.

Cordeel Belgium delivered the project on behalf of the Municipality of Sint-Katelijne-Waver through a Design & Build formula. The new complex along Leliestraat includes a new library, a conservatory, and an event and party hall. In addition, ’t Gewent offers space for a multifunctional hall, the Katelijne branch of the Stedelijk Conservatorium Mechelen, and Kind en Gezin.

Sustainability was a key focus throughout the design and construction process. All roofs, except for the roof of the main hall, were designed as green roofs. Solar panels were installed on the roof of the main hall and largely provide the electricity consumption for the entire complex. Heating is provided by heat pumps, eliminating the need for fossil fuels.

The realization of ’t Gewent was made possible thanks to strong cooperation between all project partners. Cordeel Belgium proudly looks back on the collaboration with LAVA architecten, landscape architect Avantgarden, and Imtech, which was responsible for the installation techniques.

With ’t Gewent, Sint-Katelijne-Waver now has a sustainable and versatile meeting place that is ready for the future.
